WCF overview

Introduction

Link2iforWCF is an API based on Microsoft Windows Communication Foundation Web Services. It allows the development of information systems with any technology compatible with WCF while benefiting from IBM i storage and / or background processing resources.
In addition to the API, Link2iforWCF provides examples implementing and explaining all the functions.
The IBM i has experienced a major evolution of its data management system from the V5R4M0. Link2iforWCF can’t be used in older version. S36 environment is not supported. To work with that environment, you have to use CONNECT and EVOLVE modules.

Installation

Link2iforWCF can reach all IBM i through the Link2i API (refer to "How to do" manual to know how to use Link2i API). Download Microsoft Visual Studio project "Link2iForWCF" on our website (www.link2i.com / Download) to know how to program web services WCF.
In that document, we use VB.Net syntax. The reference to Link2i Gateway is done by the prefix "x.".
Link2iforWCF supplies an additional result in XML format when possible and necessary. In this example, the reference to serialization functions is done by the prefix "XMLAct".
Any .Net language (like C#.Net) can be used.
